Better Optical Performance
Reduced Reflections – Reflections can cause problems from a nuisance to a safety hazard depending on the application. From vehicles to watercraft, you want instrument panels and navigation glare free and easy to read. Environments with high ambient lighting can cause internal and external reflections that impair your performance. External reflections can be minimized with anti-glare and anti-reflective top surface enhancements without additional power consumption. Bonding eliminates the internal reflections by filling the air gap that would be left behind with gasket or perimeter bonding.
Dust, Moisture, and Condensation – The air gap on a perimeter or gasket bonded display can be susceptible to contaminants such as dirt, dust, moisture, and condensation. This can be increased in rugged environments such as agricultural equipment or military devices. The presence of contaminants can increase the risk of failure in the adhesive tape or other material used in the perimeter bond. Optically bonded displays eliminate the potential of contamination and condensation, extending the life of your product.
Parallax – Parallax is a displacement or difference in the apparent position of an object viewed along two different lines of sight. It is measured by the angle or semi-angle of inclination between those two lines. Displays with an air gap have a noticeable amount of parallax that increases with variations of mounting tape thickness or cover lens specifications. Optically bonding a display forces the light through a single index of refraction, eliminating parallax. Total stack height can be reduced with optical bonding compared to some foam mounting tapes providing additional benefits to your touch display product.
