Touch International designs and manufactures custom touchscreen technology for high-reliability applications. Our capabilities range from custom PCAP and resistive touch sensors and components to fully integrated display systems. With over 20 years of application engineering experience, we support programs across military, medical, aerospace, and industrial markets.

Our capabilities include:

  • Custom PCAP and resistive touch sensors and components
  • Fully custom touch display assemblies
  • The OFX Series open-frame monitor platform for programs that need a pre-engineered starting point

Whether you need a custom touch sensor, a complete display assembly, or a pre-engineered monitor platform, Touch International engineers to your spec.

Projected Capacitive

Multi-Touch Technology

Multi-Touch Sensors

Touch International designs and manufactures custom PCAP touchscreen products in two configurations. The first is multi-touch sensors for full-surface touch display applications. The second is Digital Switch for applications requiring defined, button-style touch inputs through non-conductive surfaces.

How It Works

PCAP technology detects changes in a capacitive field across a grid of conductive traces. When a finger or conductive object touches the surface, it interrupts the charge field between traces. The controller detects this change and converts it to a touch coordinate. This approach supports multi-touch input and delivers accurate, drift-free touch coordinates.

Digital Switch

Touch International’s Digital Switch uses PCAP technology for button-style touch inputs. It registers input through up to one-quarter inch of any non-conductive surface. Fully sealable for waterproof performance, it is well suited for medical devices, industrial controls, appliances, and automotive applications.

PCAP Highlights

  • Wear resistant and drift-free touch coordinates
  • Works with bare finger, gloves, and any pointing device
  • Works with water
  • Exceptional optical clarity
  • High resolution
  • Multi-touch capable up to 10 points
  • Operates in environmental extremes
  • Plastic versions are lightweight and break-resistant
  • Flexible sensors can be contoured to curved surfaces

Resistive

4-Wire, 5-Wire, 8-Wire

Resistive touchscreens are well suited for harsh environments where exposure to liquids, contaminants, or gloved operation is a factor. Touch International designs and manufactures custom resistive touchscreens in 4-wire, 5-wire, and 8-wire configurations.

How it Works

Resistive technology uses two conductive layers separated by small spacer dots. When pressure is applied to the top sheet, the two layers make contact and close the circuit. The controller reads the voltage at the point of contact and converts it to a touch coordinate. The most common configuration is 5-wire, where voltage is applied to the four corners of the bottom glass layer and a single wire on the top sheet reads the contact point.

Resistive Highlights

  • Works with bare finger, gloves, and any pointing device
  • Liquids do not affect touch performance
  • Multi-touch capable
  • Low power consumption
  • Reliable performance in harsh environmental conditions

Considerations

  • Requires periodic recalibration
  • Less durable than PCAP
  • Lower optical transmittance compared to projected capacitive
